Dr Bernard Lau is a Singapore specialist accreditation board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in foot and ankle surgery. He is experienced in the management of sports-related injuries of the foot and ankle, including the use of arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery. Dr Lau also uses the latest techniques in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for the correction of bunions and forefoot deformities.
Dr. Lau obtained his basic medical qualifications from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2005. He then underwent post-graduate training in orthopaedic surgery at the National University Hospital System (NUHS) residency program. Upon completion of his residency, he was then admitted as a fellow to the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. He subsequently underwent further subspecialty training in foot and ankle surgery in Melbourne, Australia.
Prior to joining private practice, Dr Lau served as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the National University Health System, where he practices both at the National University Hospital and Alexandra Hospital. He started the foot and ankle service at Alexandra Hospital under NUHS management along with his mentor, Professor Shamal Das De. In addition, he was also an adjunct assistant professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and a clinical educator at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University.
Dr Lau maintains a strong interest in teaching and research and has published numerous articles in both local and international peer-reviewed journals. He has also presented at local, regional, and international conferences, such as the prestigious American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and International Federation of Foot and Ankle Societies (IFFAS) meetings.
In his spare time, Dr Lau has been actively involved in his community through volunteer work with his neighbourhood committee. He enjoys hiking and spending time in nature. On a personal front, Dr Lau has been blessed with a beautiful family, and his favourite past time has been travelling and spending time with his family.
